Commonality creates dialogue which determines fit. Finding a partner who is a fit for your stage of development and product has to be paramount. Dialogue based on fit facilitates relationships which, when nurtured and developed, leads to friendships and transactions. Building a successful partner relationship requires enhancing your perspective by trying to stand in the other persons shoes and always checking in with simple yet revealing questions.
- How do you think we are progressing thus far?
- What are your thoughts about going forward are we moving in the right direction?
- We have met a few times can you share with me where you are at presently and what you feel needs to get done?
These “check-in” questions are easy to ask and non-threatening but asked at the right time can put you in context on where your potential partner is at. Being in context is one of the keys to creating a dynamic partnership.
