The firm usually makes initial investments in the range of $5M-$10M with additional capital reserved for follow-on investments, but is capable of making smaller or larger investments. The firm primarily makes straight equity investments, but may consider convertible notes for smaller/earlier rounds. On occasion, public companies may be considered for investment. The firm is open to opportunities globally and will lead rounds as well as co-invest in a syndicate. The firm has no set number of investments it makes per year, but is a relatively nimble firm and able to act quickly when an opportunity presents itself.

The firm’s focus is in health sciences, including therapeutics, devices, diagnostics and health IT. Generally, the firm focuses on assets with clinical data and will invest in up unto Ph. III. The firm will evaluate pre-clinical assets pending there is a strong scientific rationale, and tends to prioritize platform technologies for early-stage assets. As for medical device companies, the firm prefers to see products with clinical data.

The firm prefers to work with experienced management teams, but will consider first time entrepreneurs as well. The firm typically seeks a board seat along with investment and in addition to capital, seeks to add value through developmental, infrastructure and expertise support, as needed, through the firm’s global network. The firm’s approach is to establish long-term relationships with target companies, with a view to enable and strengthen management to realize the full potential and value of the technology.

A venture capital firm based in Texas is focused on early and growth-stage biotech and medical device companies. The group is currently raising their second fund and is actively evaluating deals. Initial investments typically are in the $3M-$5M range and are usually in the form of straight equity, but may use convertible notes in select situations. The firm looks to take meaningful stake in portfolio companies and play an active role in their development. The firm is open to companies based in the U.S., with a specific interest in companies located outside of the major biotech hubs of Boston and San Francisco.

The firm is most interested in the biotech/therapeutics space and will consider medtech companies on a secondary basis. The firm does not invest in diagnostic or healthcare IT companies. The firm is mostly opportunistic in terms of technology type and indication area, however the group prioritizes companies with products addressing unmet medical need and unique mechanisms of action. A corporate venture subsidiary of a Japan pharmaceutical is looking to provide equity capital to seed and venture stage companies in the life science space, and invests across North America & Europe. The firm is looking to provide companies with $5 million over the lifetime of the investment and plans on making 2-3 investments over the next year.

The firm is currently looking for companies developing Therapeutics and Platform Technologies. The firm is looking for companies in this sector working with small molecules, vaccines and biotherapeutics. Indications of interest include nephrology, cardiovascular, immunology, metabolic disease the firm is especially interested in companies working with therapies for CNS disorders such as ALS, inflammation, fibrosis, NASH and orphan indications. Ideal companies will have assets in preclinical stages of development.

The firm strongly prefers that the company has a strong management team with experience in the industry. The firm historically has only invested as a co-investor although they are capable and looking to take a lead position if the correct opportunity arises. The firm is looking to allocate to companies that will eventually be able to partner long term with its parent company.

The firm usually makes seed investments in the range of $250K – $1M and venture-stage investments from $1M-$4M and may use both convertible notes or straight equity. The firm may lead or co-invest in a syndicate and looks to add unique value to entrepreneurs with a strong Equity Partner network, operational experience and technical background.

The firm invests in several verticals and is focused on deep technologies such as AI, advanced materials, quantum computing, etc. In the healthcare space, the firm is focused on the entire continuum including computational drug discovery, AI-driven diagnostics, better/faster clinical trials and technologies used by payers and providers to better understand and manage risk and drive better outcomes. The firm is currently looking for biotech therapeutics and medical devices and tends to steer away from service companies. For therapeutics, the firm is agnostic in terms of subsector and invests in small molecule, biologics, cell and gene therapy, etc. The firm is also indication agnostic, but currently most interested in oncology (especially CAR-T assets), immunology/inflammation, CNS/neurology (with a particular interest in rare neuro conditions). The firm will consider products as early as 24-months from IND through to Phase III. For medical devices, the firm seeks paradigm-shifting technologies that can reach a human proof-of-concept stage in a relatively short period of time, and prefers PMA regulatory pathways although is open to other regulatory pathways as well.

The firm prefers to lead or co-lead an investment and generally requires a board seat in its portfolio companies. The firm seeks outstanding entrepreneurial management teams.
